The phase I II approach is consistent with the user preparing a data reduction
script which can be used to obtain on-line images AND to create model images
before the observations are scheduled. It encourages the user to think through
how he is going to use the data, to see the type of image(s) he/she is likely
to obtain, and to be able to evaluate the on-line images as they are obtained.
User-friendly tools can help the user create suitable scripts
from the scientific objectives (How big is the source, what spectral lines
and velocity intervals and regions of the source are most interesting etc.)
There can be defaults (e.g. calibrator quality: images or uv-data tools,
wideband , FWHM field of view image of target source), but the user should
verify that these will enable him/her to evaluate the observations.
I much prefer to create an ascii script which the sophisticated user can
edit, add comments, etc.
