Information on September ASAC face to face meeting (R. Lucas)
Requirements on data processing were presented at ASAC by R.Lucas
ASAC impressed by our work on pipeline and off-line requirements ...
(congratulations to the writers and reviewers)
Recommendations (concerning SSR):
SSR should study software requirements for inclusion of ACA
SSR should define a core program for both pipeline and
offline analysis: this should allow the analysis of
one mode of simulated data, providing a simple milestone,
and a first first user feedback
More generally user feedback should be encouraged (see above)
Discussion on the second point: we agreed that this was more a
concern for the development cycle than for the requirements
document itself. We may have do define the contents of a
prototype system to be issued together with simulated data at an
intermediate date (well before actual data is available).
ASAC recommended the construction of the future correlator
among the extensions. As a consequence we should reevaluate the
data rate specifications.
Steve Scott, Steve Myers and Munetake Momose will examine the future
correlator documents and the science in order to start this
process.
ASAC also issued recommendations on Science Operations (ALMA
Operations Plan). The recommendations generally agree with our
assumptions, and are detailed in a document annexed to their
report.
(note however a few points, like: full source parameters
required for Phase I proposal preparation)
Status of off-line requirements (S. Myers)
A few comments from ASAC (A. Benz). They will be
communicated to Steve by Robert; the most important: we should
require feed back from package providers on needed improvements
(particularly User Interfaces), not only on defects.
Status of pipeline requirements (F. Gueth)
No comment was made since the last iteration, however
F. Gueth fels the need to go back to the document and try to
improve it within the next week or so. If changes are made there
will be a further round of comments and the document will be
edited into memo 11 before going to review process.
Comments on archive requirements draft (K. Tatematsu and
K. Nakanishi)
In relation with Virtual Observatories (VOs): we have to
make sure that the contents are there from the beginning and in
particular data quality information. It is probably not yet
possible to specify the technical details of the interfacing with
VOs (although it may be possible within the next year or so).
We agreed that a revision of the corresponding UCs should be
made, in order to make the functional requirements clearer to the
software designers.
High Level Analysis Document Review (Joe Schwarz)
The review took place yesterday (Oct 11) and was quite
successful. An architecture document should be produced by the
end of the year. On several points the need to clarify the
science requirements was pointed out by the reviewers. R.Lucas
will make a list of those points, to be discussed at our next
meeting.
Prepare and send off-line analysis document for review:
Steve Myers.
Review current pipeline requirements draft and decide
whether it is ready to be included in memo 11 or needs a
little more work (about 1 week): Frederic Gueth, Peter Shilke.
Detail Archiving Use Cases in Memo 11 and include latest comments
in archiving requirements draft: Ken Tatematsu, K. Nakanishi
Start working on data rate requirements for future
correlator (Steve Scott, Steve Myers, Munetake Momose).
List of points where clarifications/additions are needed on
Science requirements, after High Level Analysis Review
(R. Lucas).
Reminder: Kick off action on ACA specific requirements (R. Lucas).
